The QuadraPyramid™ – A Multi-Faceted Gem

With all the Diffusers on offer from Acoustics First® these days, this gem is sometimes overlooked: the QuadraPyramid™. Here’s an install pic of a few in the ceiling of a control room at the University of the Pacific!
There’s a reason why various pyramidal diffusers have been used for decades. They work, and they work well! The QuadraPyramid™ is our own take on this classic design, using four offset pyramids to create 16 angles of reflection on a single unit. Also, when mounted directly to a wall, these diffusers can double as a ‘mid-bass’ absorber, like in the project studio below.
Triple Threat!

This install pic shows a fantastic mix of products: Sound Channels® Wall Fabric, Sonora® Panels and Cloudscape® Baffles. Note how the Sound Channels fabric is used on the lower portion of the wall. Using a fabric like this is a great way to efficiently treat a large area of wall and is durable enough to take a beating from basketballs, volleyballs, etc. This installation also includes Sonora Panels on the upper portion of the wall, along with a generous helping of Cloudscape Baffles in the ceiling. Installing ceiling baffles in a dense pattern like this really helps tame the reverb in spaces with high ceilings! On a side note, all three of these products have a Class A fire rating and are great choices for public spaces, where fire codes are of paramount importance.
The Gymnasium is Baffled!

Cloudscape® Baffles are a wonderful product! This batch of baffles was installed in a middle school gymnasium/multi-purpose room by one of our dealers. Note how they were installed not just in the ceiling, but also on the walls by ‘chaining’ the baffles together. Most of the time we recommend hi-impact Sonora® Panels for the walls in school gyms such as this, but with a little ingenuity baffles can also get the job done!

Here are a few pics from a job in New York which was installed a while back by one of our regular dealers.
Note how they used a nice mix of 2’x4’ and 4’x4’ Sonora® Panels to work around the geometry of the room! Spreading around a bunch of smaller panels, like 2’x4’s, can work great because of the flexibility it gives you with your layout and design options.
Anyhow, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from Acoustics First®!

Acoustics First® at ASA Victoria 2018

Fall is always a busy time of year here at Acoustics First®. Besides the AES, our folks have also been making the rounds with the ASTM and the ASA. The ASA in Canada was particularly interesting, with much discussion about the use of computer modeling to predict the acoustic performance of sound diffusers. Our own Jim DeGrandis co-authored a paper with Dr. Hassan Azad and Ronald Sauro of NWAA Labs on using laboratory measurements to improve acoustic simulations.
The ASA also just released a promotional video for their meetings.
If you look closely, you can spot Jim 0:43 seconds into this short video from the ASA. Of course he’s instantly recognizable by his trademark hat!
